The processing of amang in the laboratory has yield zircon with a purity extending to almost 100%. Based on the minerals identified in the amang several selected instrument were used to upgrade zircon concentration. The dissociation of alkaline oxide process was used to produce zirconia, and the results were compared with several other sources of zircon sand. [Authors' abstract].

Materials Engineeing programme is a coglomeration of the traditional branches like Metallurgical Engineering, Polymeric Engineering etc. The programme deals with the understanding of structure of the materials, properties and selection of the materials, application of the various materials available, etc. Over the past half decade, a lot of experiences, success and difficulties, has been encountered by research groups involved in Materials Engineering programme. This paper intends to highlight and share some of the problems encountered while conducting research activity planned, viz. relevant technical support, obtaining proper equipment and good backup services, funding etc. and how the problems were overcome.
