A Nation-by-nation Introduction to Public Relations Theory and Practice
The book challenges the notion that public relations in Europe is no more than a copy of the Anglo-American approach. It presents a nation-by-nation introduction to historical public relations developments and current topics in European countries, written by noted national experts in public relations research and well-known professionals who are able to oversee the situation in their own countries. The contributions are written from an "inside view" and combine researched facts and figures with qualitative observations and personal reviews. In addition, the book provides conceptual statements that offer an insight into theoretical approaches.

Theory and Implications for Multinational Companies in China
This book examines a topic of paramount importance to those doing business with China: the impact of personal relationships (guanxi) on business affairs. It shows that the commercial utilization of guanxi with suppliers, customers, competitors and authorities yields significant sustainable competitive advantages. Coverage also assesses guanxi-based business strategies in terms of compliance with legal and ethical standards.
... an admittedly provocative question: what if multinational companies needed to
make strategic use of guƗnxì in order to be successful on the Chinese market?
Would this mean that they should terminate their business activities in China?
With stagnated demand in many home economies, the need to internationalize and exploit foreign market opportunities has never been more paramount for businesses to succeed at a global level. However, this process raises a number of questions, such as: can firms use their knowledge of one market in the next? Can firms pursue internationalization on several fronts at the same time? How should firms handle cultural and institutional differences between markets? This textbook provides students with the core research in international business and strategy, including organization, efficiency, external relationships and the challenges found in an increasingly multicultural world. Each part begins with a presentation of the issues and controversies faced in that particular area, followed by a synthesis of the research which provides avenues for future research. To facilitate and encourage further debate and learning, each part also includes at least one original case study. Compiled by two of the World's leading scholars of international business, and supplemented with critical commentaries and a range of integrative case studies, this comprehensive textbook provides advanced students of international business and strategy with a resource that will be invaluable in their studies and beyond.
As the paradigm of economic activity shifts to creating customer value, companies must formulate strategies that accelerate the creation and delivery of customer value. Ulwick introduces a strategy formulation theory and process that allows firms to create strategies that consistently produce breakthrough results.
Creating a strategy formulation process that integrates logic, analysis, creativity
and innovation required new thoughts and new ways of thinking about strategy
formulation. It required thinking differently about the very concept of strategy.
This book explores four interrelated themes: rethinking civic education in light of the diversity of U.S. society; re-examining these notions in an increasingly interconnected global context; re-considering the ways that civic education is researched and practiced; and taking stock of where we are currently through use of an historical understanding of civic education. There is a gap between theory and practice in social studies education: while social studies researchers call for teachers to nurture skills of analysis, decision-making, and participatory citizenship, students in social studies classrooms are often found participating in passive tasks (e.g., quiz and test-taking, worksheet completion, listening to lectures) rather than engaging critically with the curriculum. Civic Education for Diverse Citizens in Global Times, directed at students, researchers and practitioners of social studies education, seeks to engage this divide by offering a collection of work that puts practice at the center of research and theory.

Cognitive behaviour therapy is a well-researched and increasingly popular therapeutic approach used for a range of common mental health problems. Many nurses have found that it is a client-centred approach which builds on their existing communication and counselling skills. This text reflects these aspects and avoids the traditional disorder-focused model. Instead, it clarifies the key stages of therapy, enabling the reader to see how CBT can be applied to a range of situations in their own practice. Using case studies, dialogues, discussion questions and further reading, this book will demystify cognitive behaviour therapy and provide a practical resource for nurses working in mental health, learning disabilities and community fields, as well as with a range of physical health problems.

Command hallucinations are a particularly distressing and sometimes dangerous type of hallucination about which relatively little is known and for which no evidenced based treatment currently exists. In A Casebook of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Command Hallucinations the development of a new and innovative evidence based cognitive therapy is presented in a practical format ideal for the busy practitioner. This new approach is based on over a decade's research on the role of voice hearers' beliefs about the power and omnipotence of their voices and how this drives distress and 'acting on' voices. The therapy protocol is presented in clear steps from formulation to intervention. The body of the book describes its application in eight cases illustrating the breadth of its application, including 'complex' cases. The authors also present their interpretation of what their findings tell us about what works and doesn't work, and suggestions for future developments. Subjects covered also include: understanding command hallucinations a cognitive versus a quasi-neuroleptic approach to CBT in psychosis does CBT for CH work? findings from a randomised controlled trial. This book provides a fascinating and very practical summary of the first intervention to have a major impact on distress and on compliance with command hallucinations. It will be of great interest to all mental health practitioners working with people with psychosis in community and forensic settings.

There is a peculiar dissonance in innovation research. On the one hand, the label innovation is applied to almost everything: new products, processes, services, methods, techniques. Even the diffusion of innovations to all spheres of society is called innovation. On the other hand, we find that the main focus of innovation research is still on bringing technology to market. This dissonance provoked the central questions discussed at the 2nd International Conference on Indicators and Concepts of Innovation (ICICI 2008) on -Non-technological and non-economic innovations and their impact on economy- hosted by the Competence Centre for Management at the Berne School of Business and Administration: What forms and dimensions of non-technological and non-economic innovations can nonetheless be found both theoretically and empirically? What impact do these innovations have on the economy? Are there actually innovations without a non-technological and non-economic dimension, viz. purely technological or economic innovations? Consisting of selected answers to these questions, this volume presents international scholarly approaches beyond the -technology goes economic market- mainstream of innovation research. They are integrated in a theoretical framework for the analysis of socially robust innovations, i.e. innovations that succeed on more than one market and are therefore both more sustainable and more profitable. The 2nd International Conference on Indicators and Concepts of Innovation (ICICI 2008) has been supported by the SCOPES programme of the Swiss National Science Foundation."
