All rights not granted by the above license are retained by the author. Abstract: This thesis, on geometric shape modeling problems, contains two major chapters. In the first chapter, we propose a fast method for fitting planar Bspline curves to unorganized data points. In traditional methods, optimization of control points and foot points are performed in two alternating timeconsuming steps in every iteration: 1) control points are updated by setting up and solving a linear system of equations; and 2) foot points are computed by projecting each data point onto a B-spline curve. Our method uses the LBFGS optimization method to optimize control points and foot points simultaneously and therefore it does not need to solve a linear system of equations or performing foot point projection in every iteration. As a result, the proposed method is much faster than existing methods. In the second chapter, we propose a new shape description method using a radial basis function built on the medial axis of the shape. By formulating our approach as a constrained L DEGREES1-minimization problem, our method produces sparse reconstruction result which uses much fewer basis functions than previous approaches. Besides the sparse representation capacity, our method also has advantages in two aspects: 1) Our method does not rely on normal information of input points. 2) Our method has stronger capacity in representing multi-scale shapes compared with existing methods. Dead Man Talking er beretningen om Gunnar Langemarks kamp mod en dødelig cancer i skjoldbruskkirtlen. Bogen er baseret på dagbogsnotater via Facebook, hvor han deler sine oplevelser og tanker med sit netværk. De fortæller om små og store sejre, håb og desillusion og om betydningen af støtten fra familie, netværk og følgere i de sociale medier. Rod, uvidenhed, fejldiagnosticering, dårlig kommunikation mellem afdelinger og hospitaler samt læger, der ikke har læst journalen. Kampen for at overleve er stærkt udfordret af et social- og sundhedssystem præget af bureaukrati, mistro og arrogance. Systemet forventer at styre borgeren og kan ikke rumme, at der stilles krav. Gunnar Langemark er kontant i kritikken og rejser en række spørgsmål om den måde, velfærdsstaten behandler landets borgere på, når de er i krise. Et andet centralt element i bogen er Gunnar Langemarks brug af cannabisolie til at lindre smerter, dæmpe angst og give appetit samt beslutningen om at se stort på loven, da han i en periode ikke kan se andre muligheder for at redde sit liv.

Učebnice je určena pro středně pokročilé studenty, pro jazykové kurzy i samouky. Cílem je rozvíjet schopnost a chuť komunikovat v anglickém jazyce a zbavit se zábran při mluvení. Titul zahrnuje řadu slovních obratů a frází zaměřených především na cestování, ale i na další oblasti společenského života a komunikace. Na začátku každé lekce najdete články vztahující se k tématu, které provází český překlad. Následuje souhrn frází a slovíček a stručné vysvětlení hlavních gramatických jevů, které se objevují v textech článků. Gramatiku i použitou slovní zásobu a fráze si procvičíte v řadě následujících cvičení. Vyvrcholením každé lekce jsou česky popsané náměty pro rozhovory (TOPICS FOR DIALOGUES), které vedou k procvičení a zvládnutí tématu lekce. Tyto rozhovory studenti ve dvojici interpretují svými slovy v angličtině. Na konci učebnice leží klíč ke cvičením a rovněž plné znění vzorových rozhovorů. Nahrávka ke stažení obsahuje 3 hodiny a 20 minut poslechů – namluvené články, slovíčka a fráze i znění vzorových rozhovorů. Nahráli je herci odlišných národností: Angličané, Kanaďan i Skotka, a to navíc místy v lehce crazy pojetí. Pobavíte se a zároveň si prohloubíte dovednost porozumět různé výslovnosti.
