Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Universitas Indonesia sebagai bagian yang tidak terpisahkan dari masyarakat itu sendiri, juga memiliki persepsi tentang reformasi yang hampir sama dengan organisasi kemahasiswaan lainnya. Status sosial sebagai bagian dari elite masyarakat yang harus mempunyai peranan tersendiri dalam masyarakat, telah melahirkan berbagai bentuk tuntutan terhadap organisasi ini. Apalagi bila dilihat dari posisi letak yang sangat strategis di Ibukota negara, gerakan dan sepak terjang organisasi ini sering dipakai sebagai barometer bagi organisasi kemahasiswaan yang lainnya.
