English summary: 'Divination' means the gaining and interpretation of symbolic and vocal messages from the Gods. Divine signs, oracles and dreams that provide people with knowledge, advice, and instructions that would be unattainable through any other means not only play a significant role in all genres of Greek writing, but have also initiated, changed or confirmed political decisions. This study explores ways in which this actually occurred. The author approaches his subject from a cultural anthropological perspective and attempts to determine the specific nature of Greek divination in comparison with other mantic systems. German description: Die Erlangung und Deutung von symbolischen und sprachlichen Gotterbotschaften nennt man mit einem griechischen Begriff "Mantik." Gotterzeichen, Orakel und Traume, die den Menschen auf anderem Wege nicht zugangliche Kenntnisse, Ratschlage und Anweisungen ubermitteln, spielen nicht nur in griechischen Texten aller Gattungen eine hervorragende Rolle, sondern haben auch tatsachlich politische Entscheidungen angestoaen, verandert oder bestatigt. In diesem Buch wird untersucht, auf welche Weise das geschah: Wie sind die Gotterbotschaften konstruiert? In welchen Kontexten erhalten sie in Griechenland Bedeutung?
