Vermicompost and NPK on Wheat

Growth, Chemical Composition and Yield

A field experiment was done at SAU Farm, in winter(10 Nov. 2004-07 Mar.2005)to investigate the effect of vermicompost and NPK (Nitorgen+Phosphorous+Potassium) on the growth, chemical composition and yield of wheat. The experimental soil was silty clay, pH 6.0. The treatments were 4 levels of vermicomposts viz. V0 (0 t ha-1), V1 (1 t ha-1), V2 (2 t ha-1), V3 (3 t ha-1), and 4 levels of fertilizers viz. F0 = (0-0-0 kg ha-1), F1 = low (40-30-20 kg ha-1), F2 = medium (80-60-40 kg ha-1), F3 = high (120-80-60 kg ha-1) of N-P2O5-K2O with 16 treatments combinations and 3 replications. The results showed that with increasing the doses of vermicomposts and fertilizers increased grain and straw yield significantly up to a level. The maximum significant grain and straw yields were obtained with the treatment combinations V3F2 or V2F3. The highest doses of vermicompost and chemical fertilizers increased N, P, K and S concentrations in wheat plant significant at different stages of plant growth and also enhanced N, P, K and S uptake significantly at the ripening stage. In Kidney Disease

Kidney diseases is a worldwide public health problem. There is an increasing incidence and prevalence of patients with kidney failure requiring replacement therapy, with poor outcomes and high cost. Most of the kidney patient is a major health problem associated with considerable increase in morbidity and mortality and with decreased quality of life. Outcomes of kidney diseases include not only kidney failure but also complications of decreased kidney function and other complication including hypertension, renal disease, retinopathy and neuropathy. Different types of food habit also cause formation of kidney stone, kidney cancer, etc. This study explored the potiential for extending contribution of pharmacist, physician, renal pharmacist, nephrologists, nurses make in managing patients with kidney disease as they progress to end stage kidney failure. Patients at earlier stages of kidney disease can be detected through laboratory testing and their treatments are effective in slowing the progression to kidney failure and reducing cardivascular events and thus improve the quality of life

Impact of Technological Innovation on the Poor

The author examines the dynamics of participation in and welfare impact of integrated aquaculture-agriculture (IAA) value chain by using three-year panel data from indigenous households in the northern and north-western regions of Bangladesh. By different panel estimation methods he analyses the IAA value chain participation dynamics and indicates that education and household size, access to extensions and market information, community-based organisations (CBO) membership are positively associated with participation and continuing participation in IAA value chain activities. Welfare impact results indicate that IAA value chain participation is positively correlated to household income and consumption frequency of some goods, particularly fish. Assessment of the comparative socio-environmental impacts of rice monoculture and rice-fish based IAA practices suggests that rice-fish based IAA is a sustainable alternative to rice monoculture.
