Developing Students' Speaking Ability Through Genre-Based Teaching

One of some matters that should be considered in language teaching is that whether teachers should teach implicitly or explicitly related to certain language events in social context and the purpose of the events. In line with the importance of whether language teaching should be undertaken implicitly or explicitly, there is an approach that represents these needs. Genre-based approach is an approach that employs explicit instruction in teaching. Genre-based approach is possibly applied in teaching language skills in general or teaching speaking in particular besides writing, as current trends usually focus on. Regarding this, then this study is aimed at investigating how genre-based approach can be applied in teaching speaking especially in recount texts and what the students' responses towards the implementation of the genre-based approach (GBA) in speaking class.

Translating Qur¿anic Mutashabihat

A Linguistic Approach

Translating the Qur nic Mutash bih t 'i.e. polysemic' verses adopts a new linguistic methodology for analyzing Qur nic texts through the use of Vermeer's Skopostheorie and Nord's Functional Approach, in three selected English translations of the Qur n. This book investigates how multi-layered meanings can account for the ambiguity in the semantic value, which is inherent in Qur nic discourse. The problematic translation of Qur nic Mutash bih t provides: An overview of the previous attempts on the pitfalls of translating the Qur n A detailed Lexico-semantic analysis of 25 Qur nic Mutash bih t verses Assessing the appropriateness of the theories adopted in evaluating the translation How the analysis can be used to disambiguate the loaded meanings of Mutash bih t. This book is a new progression in Qur nic studies and Translation which bridges the gap between two different languages and cultures by providing a systematic analysis of problematic translations from Arabic into English. This book is essential reading for scholars or researchers of Qur nic studies, Translation, linguistic analysis, Skopostheorie or Functional Approach applications and Arabic Linguistics.

The Balanced Scorecard

The book seeks to create a model that can generally be applied in assessing performance of banks in several dimensions using the balanced scorecard framework. The theory section looks at different concepts and relevant theories that come up when analyzing how the bank s financial results are being impacted by other non-financial perspectives. The objective is to create a theoretical conceptualization of corporate strategy implementation and balanced scorecard evaluation that will assist investors, academics and the general public to gain better insight in the long term sustainability of banks. Analysis also showed that in implementing corporate strategies, banks have fantastic strategies, but neglect the critical success factors such as efficient internal processes and the quality of their staff.

Microbiological Quality of Raw Goat Milk

Unlike cow milk, which has stringent hygiene and safety regulations, microbiological standards for the production and distribution of goat milk is more relaxed. Whilst most of the consumer prefer to drink raw goat milk due to their belief in some benefits of it, so far this product has less attention in terms of quality and safety control from government authority as compared to cow milk and milk products. Therefore the investigation on the microbiological quality of raw goat milk and its associated risk factors is of central importance. This book provides integrated approach of analysis by evaluating the relationship between animal and farm conditions and microbiological quality of its product. The methods of analysis are simple and applicable, it can be used by anyone who have interest in the field of animal food hygiene and safety. The baseline information from this study can also be used by authority in formulating intervention policy to assist the farmers for improving their systems of keeping animals and the quality and safety of the products.

Restaurant Business Process and Its Implementation on Compiere Erp

When owner of the restaurant want to expand their business, they need to combine a good business with the technology. That is why we will propose new business process and implement the ERP system to the business process. We do the analysis to existing restaurant to get the existing business process. To get the base for comparison, we are looking into the theoretical concept and get the basic theoretical business process. Using theoretical business process, we make the comparison with the restaurant current business process and the result from the process comparison. To analyze the business process, data flow diagram and activity diagram used to mapping the business process. Compiere ERP is used to be implemented in the business process as a system that can have data and process integration. By utilize proposed business process, the restaurant can improve their process effectiveness and minimize waiting time of the customer, so it can improve the customer satisfaction to the restaurant.

When owner of the restaurant want to expand their business, they need to combine a good business with the technology.

Integrated Supply Chain Management and Total Quality Management

In a dynamic international market, quality is not enough. Supply at the right time, place and cost is critical for competitive advantage. The global business competition also is not only between the firms but between supply chains of the firms. Most leading companies have adopted SCM and TQM. However, an integrative implementation of both systems is difficult. It takes time and great effort, and consumes considerable investment due to the extended scope that covers not only internal functions but also the operations of external business partners. If the implementation can, however, be accomplished, costs can be recovered and the organization should reap a great deal of benefits. If the implementation fails, there would be a serious impact on the business performance of an organization.

Sheikh Zainuddin Makhdum's Tuhfatul Mujahideen

Anti-colonial and anti-invasion literature does not lose significance or go out of popular interest as long as invasions or political oppressions continue in one form or another. Works in this spectrum have been labeled variously in the modern times as literature of the colonized, anti-colonial literature, literature of the marginalized, subaltern literature etc. Written originally in Arabic about five centuries ago, Sheikh Zainuddin Makhdum s Tuhfatul Mujahideen is viewed as a classic text in this genre. It has been translated into several regional and international languages. It was rendered into English two or three times over the centuries. Yet a modern translation of the work in to English is worth the effort in view of the revival of interest in things related to colonial times especially in the context of post World War II trends of neo-colonialism. It is, no doubt, a rich addition to the growing genre of subaltern literature in English.

Metacognitive Awareness and Performance on Assessment Tasks in Reading

This book provides a theoretical-practical framework that links assessment practice to learning theory by synthesizing three theoretical axis of learning: Schema theory - emphasizing the role of prior knowledge in learning; Metacognitive Awareness theory - profiling an expert reader; and the Vygotskian notion of the Zone of Proximal Development - extending and facilitating learners' cognitive abilities and performance by providing a "psychological tool." Increasing learners' metacognitive awareness by applying MetaCognitive Awareness Guidance to reading assessment tasks will not only facilitates students' learning and improve their reading comprehension but will also increase their chances of internalizing the guidance components and applying them in changing learning situations. The research also emphasizes on how teachers' perspectives, thoughts and opinions play a critical role in applying MCAG in teaching. The book focuses on reading assessment that better serve the goals of reliability and validity, and facilitate the kind of assessment that will benefit our students the most, the kind of assessment to which our students are entitled.

Politics of Space: Conrad, Spatial Identity and Colonialism

The present book is a work written about the role of space in identity construction of main characters of the selected novels by Joseph Conrad. This study gains significance from Edward Said's perspectives in his Orientalism to shed light on spatial identity of Marlow and Kurtz in Heart of Darkness, Jim in Lord Jim and Nostromo in Conrad's Nostromo. This sudy elaborates the influence of the space and colonialism in creating identity crisis and alienation in both colonized and colonizer.

Self-Assembled Monolayer of Aromaticthiols on Au

This book handles, presents, and discusses very important and attractive experimental data concerning the formation of highly ordered and orientated self-assembled monolayers of aromaticthiols on Au(111). These SAMs are generated from conjugated molecules that are useful for future molecular electronics application because they are considered to be electrically conductive. The resulting SAMs are characterized by means of different surface techniques such as STM, LEED, XPS, and FTIR. The results demonstrate that the packing of the biphenyl (BP) and terphenyl (TP) moieties in BPn and TPn (n=0-6) films exhibit a periodical "odd-even" variation with the length of the aliphatic part. For an odd number of CH2 group in the alkyl chain of BPn and TPn a higher density was found. In the opposite case, the biphenyl and terphenyl moieties adopt a lower density.
