The Handbook of Nonsexist Writing

Man, he brotherhood, founding fathers. It is argued that such words are and always have been used by educated people to encompass all humanity—men and women. Psychological and historical research in the past few years has produced evidence to the contrary: for most people “false generics” seldom if ever convey a female image, nor are they ancient unchangeable rules of the English grammar that have always been used by the educated. Using hundreds of examples, mostly from published sources, the authors illustrate what certain words are saying to us on a subliminal level. Solutions are supplied that range from word substitutions to suggestions for rewriting. Without a trace of self-conscious righteousness, and with refreshing humor, Miller and Swift provide surprising insights into the English language and the ways in which people use it and are used by it. They demonstrate that to be in command of the language, we must find clear, convincing, and graceful ways to convey our ideas accurately. We must recognize and replace exclusive, distorting, ambiguous, and injurious words.

Lloyd (writing in 1971) adds that “by now almost'everyone who supported votes
for women in the days before the First World War is liable to be called a

Tied for Third (AND Still the Winner)

The author shares his story of how he got involved in music, and then his venture into the world of education. This comedic reading and sometimes teary eyed script sets the stage for the reader to imagine the settings the author has experienced. From a demeaning pius authority to silly, innocent youth and territorial secretaries and custodians, 'Tied For Third' will make you laugh, cry and smile from time to time.

As Freddy and Ruth made their way to their reserved table, I provided my musical
escort of “Moonlight Serenade” in his honor. Freddy would respond to me with
gratitude, delivering a wink and a smile. 9 Tiedfor Third (AND Still the Winner)

You Are the Winner

WAY IN HARMONY We all aspire to understand each other and to love one another. In this day and age, with hectic and wide distractions we are confronted with psychological problems that can create a rift creating tension among us. We are all born to have a happy life that we can be contented with. This ideally should be the way IN HARMONY. It appears that there are many avenues to overcome our daily struggles. The best manner however, is to know how to control your thoughts and to know yourself, so simple it is. Be your own "engineer" or call it healer. Maintain your system well and there will be no repairs required. We all love to live a peaceful life. This book serves as a tool for you, dear reader, to reach new heights, which allow you to stay above life's struggles and remain victorious; you will rise above unhappiness and despair. It helps you to understand that you are never alone! Behind every face, there is a smile. Behind every curtain, there is the "true you". I hope to affect that cause-in a subtle way, to raise the curtain and touch you in a way that will surprise you most. Learn that you are an artist; let this be proven to you. If you allow yourself to follow the way described in here, frictions will belong to the past and your mind will be at ease allowing you to be victorious.

If others use them on us, we must be far from being insulted, we are above that
level, we are strong, we are the knowing we can understand the other party and
clear the matter politely we are the WINNER. Mourning all day makes you sick.

E-Commerce

A Knowledge Base

Electronic Commerce is one of the most important aspects to emerge from the Internet. It allows people to exchange goods and services immediately, with no barriers of time or distance Initially, E-Commerce was primarily the domain of large firms, due to its initial format of customized, complex, and expensive transactions – essential barriers to entry by smaller competitors. Today, for a nominal fee, anyone may become an online merchant, with the potential to reach millions of consumers world-wide. In essence, the development of the Internet has had the same effect on E-Commerce as Henry Ford’s assembly line on the automotive industry. It has converted a luxury for the few into a relatively simple and inexpensive device for the masses. In this book, we will explore these impacts and innovations. The purpose of this book is to provide a preliminary analytical foundation (knowledge base), which then may be used for further, more advanced study. It is not intended to be an exhaustive analysis—yet at the same time provides as much information as possible to provide an accurate depiction of the current state and likely future direction of E-Commerce.

In this book, we will explore these impacts and innovations. The purpose of this book is to provide a preliminary analytical foundation (knowledge base), which then may be used for further, more advanced study.

guys,” Ricky said. “I can't get a turn.” “There are no turns.” Todd added, “You just
say what you want to say when you got something to say.” “That's chaos!” Ricky

Submarine Operational Effectiveness in the 20th Century

Part One (1900 - 1939)

A very new weapons system, the lurking submarine with its self-propelled torpedoes fired from ambush changed the complexion of naval warfare forever. Both warships and merchant ships were at risk. In 1914 U-boats demonstrated their capability to sink major warships. During 1915 they turned their attention to merchant ships and began to sink or capture them in wholesale lots. U-boats nearly won the First World War for Germany by forcing Great Britain into peace negotiations in late 1917. U-boats sank or captured over 6,100 ships during WW I. In April 1917 England had only six weeks grain supply left, and apparently had no adequate way to deal with the unrestricted U-boat offensive that Germany unleashed in February of that year. Submarine Operational Effectiveness in the 20th Century deals with the first strategic submarine campaign and its outcome. It goes on to outline submarine development by major nations during the 1920s and 1930s, including submarine use during the Spanish Civil War. It ends in 1939, on the eve of World War Two, a war in which two massive submarine campaigns would be waged: the first by Nazi Germany against the Allies; and the second by the United States against the Empire of Japan.
