Emily Mason Teaches You to Think

Hi, my name is Emily, and I am eight years old. I have a favorite pair of tennis shoes, a dog named Roxy, a parakeet, and a stick of gum that I am saving for a special occasion. I love dancing, crazy hats, and talking to God! Talking to God helps me choose my thoughts. My mom says, "Choose your thoughts. Choose your life." She says it's super important to think God's kind of thoughts! There are all kinds of ways to talk to God. Lots of times when I want to talk with God, I go to my tree house. It's my quiet place, and it's just for me. I have all kinds of things in my tree house. I have crayons and paper, clay, and silly glasses. I have dress ups, boxes, and a flashlight. I make things there. Sometimes I dance and sing. I love to practice twirling! Even if you don't have a tree house, you can choose your own place to talk with God. He is always with you. I hope you will use this book to choose your thoughts! Come and visit me in my tree house. I'd love to see you!

A multiple correlation analysis of factors associated with adoption of farm practices

motivation and how these may affeot adoption. Existing research has to some
extent inferred such differences from data at hand and at least pointed the way for
further study. Wilkening's recent study3** of the relationship between family
factors and adoption found that differential value attached to alternative ends for
a given family is associated with adoption of practices. This indicates that
motivations to achieve particular ends with reference to the farm enterprise

LightScapes

In recent years Light Art has become a central theme, as well as an independent complex in the oeuvre of Stuttgart artist rosalie . Her large, kinetic light sculptures draw great attention both in Germany and abroad. Through her exploration of materials, technologies, and digital media rosalie creates "new universes of light." In the year 2013 the artist realized three large-scale, kinetic, interactive light and space sculptures for the Museum der bildenden Künste in Leipzig, introducing trendsetting perspectives to the international Light Art scene. This publication documents the highly respected Leipzig works, as well as a selection of Light Art that rosalie created between 2007 and 2011 in cooperation with the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe.

The English is Coming!

How One Language is Sweeping the World

English has fast become the number one language for everything from business and science, diplomacy and education, entertainment and environmentalism to socializing and beyond—virtually any human activity unfolding on a global scale. Worldwide, nonnative speakers of English now outnumber natives three to one; and in China alone, more people use English than in the United States—a remarkable feat for a language that got its start as a mongrel tongue on an island fifteen hundred years ago. Through the fascinating stories of thirty English words used and understood in nearly all corners of the globe, The English Is Coming! takes readers on an eye-opening journey across culture and commerce, war and peace, and time and space. These mini-histories shed new light on everyday words: the strange turns of fate by which their meanings evolved and their new roles as the building blocks of the first language ever to forge a global community. Exploring such familiar terms as shampoo (from a Hindi word for scalp and body hygiene long practiced in India); robot (coined by Czech painter Josef Capek for his brother Karel’s 1921 play about man-made creatures); credit (rooted in a prehistoric phrase of sacred significance: "to put heart into"); and dozens of others, Dunton-Downer reveals with clarity and humor how these linguistic artifacts embody the resilience, appeal, adoptability, and wild inclusiveness that English, through a series of historical accidents, gained on its road to worldwide reach. These words explain not only how English has managed to link our distant and often disparate pasts but also how it is propelling humankind to a future that we can, for the first time, talk about and shape in a language that now belongs to all of us: Global English. Perfect for culture buffs, armchair travelers, and language lovers alike, The English Is Coming! is sure to inspire truly global conversations for decades to come.

Consider current English terms for banking. In its financial sense, we saw how
bank arose in northern Italy just when Romance languages were giving fresh life
and meaning to words inherited from Latin. Little wonder that many words of “
banking English” have been passed down to us as part of a verbal package deal,
linked aspects of a finance culture whose terms chiefly stem from Latin: percent,
principal, capital, profit, investment, amount, account, ac- tivity, balance, credit,
and, alas ...

Strategic Management in Public Services Organizations

Concepts, Schools and Contemporary Issues

Strategic Management in Public Services Organizations sets out to connect the two traditionally disparate academic literatures of public management and strategic management. The authors argue that some models of strategic management are now of enhanced relevance for contemporary public services organizations, especially when considering successive New Public Management reforms. This observation has important consequences for the requisite work practices, skills and knowledge bases of current public managers, as they are increasingly being asked to act as strategic as well as operational managers. Strategic Management in Public Services Organizations takes a strongly comparative and international perspective in addressing the fundamental issue of strategic management within diverse public administrative traditions. The impact of strategic management on the performance of public agencies is examined and it is argued that the appropriate use of strategic management models depends on the politico-administrative and cultural contexts of the public services organization in question, concluding that there is no single best way to strategically lead public organisations. This is an advanced textbook aimed at the postgraduate level, particularly students on MPAs and MBAs with a public sector option or MScs in Public Policy and Public Management.
