HILT uses the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) as a terminology mapping spine or switching language between different monolingual (English) subject vocabularies. Pilot services offered by HILT include disambiguation of terms suggested by end-users, spell-checking of user terms, improving the precision of item-level subject searching by suggesting appropriate terms, and selecting catalogues for searching where the collection has subject strengths matching the user's search strategy.
