CHIMBRIDS - Chimeras and Hybrids in Comparative European and International Research

Scientific, Ethical, Philosophical and Legal Aspects

National, European and international concepts and strategies concerning the legal and ethical framework of chimera and hybrid research are still largely missing, even though they are absolutely necessary in order to use the potential of chimera and hybrid research effectively and efficiently for the benefit of science and society. The outcome of the CHIMBRIDS-Project successfully sheds light on the chances and risks of this research and provides legal solutions to existing problems in order to help decision-makers fulfil their tasks in an informed and efficient manner. This comprehensive volume details the complete results, contributed by 40 scholars from 10 member states of the European Union, Canada, China, Israel, Japan, Switzerland and the US, with descriptive reports of the legal situation in specific countries and in-depth analysis of all scientific, medical, ethical and legal implications of chimera and hybrid research.

Semantic Grid: Model, Methodology, and Applications

Semantic Grid: Model, Methodology, and Applications introduces to the science, core technologies, and killer applications. First, scientific issues of semantic grid systems are covered, followed by two basic technical issues, data-level semantic mapping, and service-level semantic interoperating. Two killer applications are then introduced to show how to build a semantic grid for specific application domains. Although this book is organized in a step by step manner, each chapter is independent. Detailed application scenarios are also presented. In 1990, Prof. Wu invented the first KB-system tool, ZIPE, based on C on a SUN platform. He proposed the first coupling knowledge representing model, Couplingua, which embodies Rule, Frame, Semantic Network and Nerve Cell Network, and supports symbol computing and data processing computing. His current focus is on semantic web, grid & ubiquitous computing, and their applications in the life sciences.

Abstract: Data mining and knowledge discovery focus on the extraction of useful
patterns from data. Different from data mining using traditional systems, the
Semantic Grid provides a new computational environment, and also a new
architecture for data mining. The dynamic extension of algorithms, the
transparent integration of data, and the further refinement of knowledge, are the
main characteristics of knowledge discovery using such architecture. As high-
level services of the ...

Micro and Nano Energy Harvesting Technologies

Seeking renewable and clean energies is essential for releasing the heavy reliance on mineral-based energy and remedying the threat of global warming to our environment. In the last decade, explosive growth in research and development efforts devoted to microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology and nanowires-related nanotechnology have paved a great foundation for new mechanisms of harvesting mechanical energy at the micro/nano-meter scale. MEMS-based inertial sensors have been the enabler for numerous applications associated with smart phones, tablets, and mobile electronics. This is a valuable reference for all those faced with the challenging problems created by the ever-increasing interest in MEMS and nanotechnology-based energy harvesters and their applications. This book presents fundamental physics, theoretical design, and method of modeling for four mainstream energy harvesting mechanisms -- piezoelectric, electromagnetic, electrostatic, and triboelectric. Readers are provided with a comprehensive technical review and historical view of each mechanism. The authors also present current challenges in energy harvesting technology, technical reviews, design requirements, case studies, along with unique and representative examples of energy harvester applications.

Oral life histories of one-room schoolhouse teachers

How did I feel about that? Well . . . since they put the Black teachers in the white
schools ... I think it was great. And I would like to say that when I came here to the
Gallipolis City Schools ... a principal I knew . . . before 1954 ... I had asked him if
he thought they'd ever have a Black teacher at Washington. He said, "Oh no!"
And I am so thankful that he lived to see me go to Washington School! I taught ten
years there! Those were ten of the happiest years of my life! I loved every minute
of it.

Research Frontiers on the International Marketing Strategies of Chinese Brands

This book proposes a theoretical framework identifying external and internal factors that influence internationalization strategy of Chinese brands and brand performance. It explores several key strategies e.g. standardization versus adaptation, price leadership versus branding, OBM export versus OEM export, and incremental versus leap-forward internationalization model. The relationships are examined between various international marketing mix e.g. distribution channel and pricing strategies, and brand performance. Through case studies the text also analyses the internationalization of contract-based firms.

5.2 Theoretical framework and hypotheses According to the strategy-environment
co-alignment view, if a firm's international marketing strategy is congruent with
the overseas market environment, resources will be optimally matched with the
environment according to stra- tegic requirements and utilized to the maximum,
thus achieving satisfactory performance (Venkatraman & Prescott, 1990).
According to the marketing segmentation theory, firms can achieve satisfactory

... G. Wang National Chengchi University, Taiwan ABSTRACT We investigate the
dynamics of trader behaviors using an agent-based genetic programming system
to simulate double-auction markets. The objective of this study is two-fold. First,
we seek to evaluate how, if any, the difference in trader rationality/intelligence
influences trading behavior. Second, besides rationality, we also analyze how, if
any, the co-evolution between two learnable traders impacts their trading
behaviors.

Social Marketing for Public Health

Global Trends and Success Stories

Social Marketing for Public Health: Global Trends and Success Stories explores how traditional marketing principles and techniques are being used to increase the effectiveness of public health programs-around the world. While addressing the global issues and trends in social marketing, the book highlights successful health behavior change campaigns launched by governments, by a combination of governments, NGOs, and businesses, or by citizens themselves in 15 countries of five continents. Each chapter examines a unique, current success story, ranging from anti-smoking campaigns to HIV-AIDS prev
