A Wheel Within A Wheel

The book is written in a simple, interesting way that keeps readers reeled in throughout the entire book. It’s a devastating story of Richard Forester, a homeless young man, who was a victim of his surroundings. Being mildly handicapped, he was living under the terrible stresses of poverty. And in the face of rejection by society, he was struggling to retain his dignity. Richard is powerless to defend the hard life on the roads. It became part of life for him to suffer, as few people on his path delivered to him a painful piece of a human cruelty. In a shocking course of events the wheels of destiny began spinning again, changing to a new direction.

“Then we'll get you out of jail,” Peter Osborn said with confidence. He looked at
his watch. “Would you represent me, Sir?” Now Richard was crying. He could
hear his own whispers, and it frightened him. “Whatever happens, the money is
still yours.” Osborn said. “And if you want, you can hire my firm as your attorneys.
You now have the money to pay for our services, Right?” “Yes Sir.” “Ok, Sport. Let
me draw one of my temporary agreements.” Osborn pulls a small notepad and

Spirituality, social justice, and language learning

This book sets out to explore the intersections between matters not frequently yoked in academic discussions: spirituality, social justice, and the learning of world languages. The contributing authors contend not only that these intersections exist, but that they are the site of issues and realities that require the attention of language educators and point to avenues of growth for the language teaching profession. The essays included seek to indicate the possibilities of a neglected area of inquiry, not only in terms of theory but also in terms of the practices of language education. Given this aim of opening up fresh questions, the book is arranged so as to show the relevance of the nexus of spirituality and social justice to teacher education (chapters 3 and 4), language classroom practices (chapters 5 and 6), and the theoretical sources that inform scholarly discussion of language education (chapters 7 and 8). The opening chapters place these explorations in a larger context by showing how they fit into existing social contexts and academic discussions.

Commonplace Books and Reading in Georgian England

This pioneering exploration of Georgian men and women's experiences as readers explores their use of commonplace books for recording favourite passages and reflecting upon what they had read, revealing forgotten aspects of their complicated relationship with the printed word. It shows how indebted English readers often remained to techniques for handling, absorbing and thinking about texts that were rooted in classical antiquity, in Renaissance humanism and in a substantially oral culture. It also reveals how a series of related assumptions about the nature and purpose of reading influenced the roles that literature played in English society in the ages of Addison, Johnson and Byron; how the habits and procedures required by commonplacing affected readers' tastes and so helped shape literary fashions; and how the experience of reading and responding to texts increasingly encouraged literate men and women to imagine themselves as members of a polite, responsible and critically aware public.

Making British Culture

English Readers and the Scottish Enlightenment, 1740–1830

Making British Culture explores an under-appreciated factor in the emergence of a recognisably British culture. Specifically, it examines the experiences of English readers between around 1707 and 1830 as they grappled, in a variety of circumstances, with the great effusion of Scottish authorship – including the hard-edged intellectual achievements of David Hume, Adam Smith and William Robertson as well as the more accessible contributions of poets like Robert Burns and Walter Scott – that distinguished the age of the Enlightenment.
