Tidak pernah sebelumnya terjadi suatu pemberedelan 'disambut' dengan 'amarah' yang berkepanjangan, baik oleh wartawan dan pengelola media pers maupun pengamat dan pembaca media pers yang merasa prihatin. Belum pernah terjadi dalam sejarah pers di Indonesia, demontrasi yang memprotes pembatasan kebebasan pers terus menjalar dari satu kota ke kota lain, di sedikitnya 21 kota, selama lebih dari satu tahun.
