Metacognitive Training and Self-management of Delusions in Chronic Schizophrenia
A growing body of evidence (Moritz, 2010) demonstrates how enriched flexibility of thought and improved theory of mind can increase the patient’s ability to reduce delusions or avoid an acute psychotic event. This research examines the effectiveness of Metacognitive Training in increasing positive self-management of delusions with patients who are diagnosed on the Schizophrenia spectrum. A within-groups design yielded marginal statistical significance of .054 ( t (10) = 2.18, p = .054). Clinically meaningful effect sizes were identified in overall improvement and in the subscales Jumping to Conclusions, Belief Inflexibility, Social Cognition, and Safety Behaviors of the Davos Assessment Cognitive Biases Scale.
