Cincinnati's New Hope Congregation and the Ambiguities of Ethnic Religion

Union College (H.U.C.) agreed to absorb all the expenses of these five men, who
included: Wolfgang (Wolli) Kaelter, Leo Lichtenberg, W. Gunther Plaut, Herman
Schaalman, and Alfred Wolf. In 1940, Herman Schaalman was president of the
Gate Club, Ernst M. Lorge was program chairman and served on its board, while
Kaelter and Wolf were also prominently involved in the Club affairs. See interview
