Large numbers of people brush their teeth only because they "feel it is the thing
to do". Still others, for appearance sake, only brush those tooth surfaces that are
seen. On the surface these reports suggest that education in oral hygiene could
show promise, especially if properly advanced and related to total needs of the
groups involved. However, the general failure to develop effective methods of
motivation for education, especially for oral hygiene, appear to be almost totally
absent.
