The monarchs of Pala Dynasty and a monarch of the Sri Wijaya Empire (
presently Sumatra of Indonesia) had also effected the construction of buildings
and other improvements.41 The excavations at Nalanda show that practically all
the buildings were grand, beautiful and artistic. The campus covered an area
nearly a mile long and half a mile broad. The central college had seven halls and
about three-hundred smaller rooms for lecturing work. The buildings were
several storeys high.
