"Under Construction:" Educational Strategies for Forming Adult Christian Religious Identity in the Context of Postmodern Pluralism

My work is grounded in the methodology of practical and cultural theology and combines insights from cognitive-developmental theory and transformative learning theory with constructive educational design. I propose strategies for adult religious education based on a Shared Christian Praxis approach, and augmented by several elements designed to be particularly responsive to the postmodern context. I investigate the effectiveness of these proposals from the standpoint of a field study of practices of Christian hospitality in a distinctively postmodern setting: a theologically progressive Episcopal congregation in a culturally diverse West Coast city.
